Screen grabs of double page spread

Using Quark Express I copied my word document of my article to my double page spread. I chose an important quote, highlighted it and changed the color of it to break the text. I found this was one of the codes and conventions of double page spreads. I changed the font too.

I added the edited picture to cover both pages. I chose to do this because I thought the image looked good over the two pages. They also fitted in with the theme (raindrops). I highlighted the first few words to show the readers were to start reading and I also added a drop capital because this was one of the codes and conventions of a double page spread.

I placed the headline over the top of both pages in the color white to make it stand out and it was finished.

I couldnt use this for my final media product because I needed an
image that represented Cheryl Cole more I also didnt have a standfirst
of the journalist's name. The quote wasnt centered and the colors used for
the title blended in with the background therefore I had to edit this.

MY FINAL DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

I changed the color of the headline to a blue, keeping to the color scheme of blues.
I decided to take a photograph of a hand and lipstick so it gives the effect that
the words '3 words' were being written onto the page. I added the standfirst
and changed the color of the quote to make it stand out.

Screen grabs of contents page

Using Quark Express I made a layout of my contents page. I used the same font for the title on the magazine contents because I found the majority of magazines did this. I used the words contents to show it's the contents page.

I put the page numbers and contents into two columns on the right side leaving the left side for images. I used the colors blue and orange because they are the same as the title.

I placed an image of the front cover in the corner because I found in many other magazines they did this. I also placed contact details here because it is one of the codes and conventions of a music magazine.

I chose my images to put on the contents page. I chose the first one of the same madel as the front page to connect the two together. I chose the image of the model with the hood and three fingers up because the article is about three words. I choose the images of Justin Biebers twitter and youtube because he was found on youtube.

I added another picture of a doll similar to Lady GaGa. I added page numbers and titles to the pictures to show what page the were on.

I couldnt use this as my contents page because the title similar to the front
page was too blurry and didnt look proffesional. I needed to change the images
used and the layout giving more space for images.

FINISHED CONTENTS PAGE

This is my finished contents page, I chose to change the layout to give
more space for images and change the colors a little bit because
orange and blue were too overpowering. I chose to take the image of a model
signing a piece of paper and the hands on a Justin Bieber poster for the contents page instead.

Screen grabs of magazine front page

This is how my front cover originally looked like. I had to make some changes to fit the genre. The changes I made were the outfit the model was wearing. I had to chage that because the clothes were too dark for a pop magazine. I also changed the position of the model because you could see the stand she was holding and it didn't look right. I also changed the colors slightly to fit in with the questionnaire results.

I used photoshop to create my front cover. I chose the purple background because the questionnare results said they liked the color purple. I found the front for the front page on the internet, I chose to use it because it looks like bubbles and that's the name of the magazine so it fitted well. I edited the picture to make it look lighter and enhance the features.

I added the coverlines and chose to make them orange because the models bow was orange and the target audience liked the color. I used yellow for the word exclusive to make it eye catching and to grab the audiences attention.

I added a band of color accross the bottom of the front page which would contain the artists name which would be included inside the magazine. I chose pink because the target audience like that color.
I added a barcode because every magazine has a barcode on the front page. I also added the price and date of the issue.

Finally I changed the name of the artists on the bottom strip because they were already on the front cover. I changed the size of the barcode because it was too big and I also changed the positioning of the words 'Candy Cane' because they looked better lower down the page. I also put the models head in front of the title because in many of the magazines I've looked at it was like that.

This couldnt be used as my final magazine front page because
the font for the title found on the internet was a jpeg file
and when printed out looked blurry and unproffesional
so I changed this.

FINISHED FRONT COVER

My final magazine front cover is this. I made a few changes which were
I shoertened the coverlines focusing on the artists names. I made the
botton strip smaller, made the barcode smaller and used a different font for the title
I added a glow effect on the title to make it more eye catching to the audience
and I also made the color yellow because from the audience research I found it a color
the target audience liked.I also moved the positioning statement and issue date
and price.

Draft of Of Double Page Spread

Here is the draft for my double page spread, it is a biographical article on Cheryl Cole and it includes quotes and views from the fans I interviewed on Cheryl Cole.

3 WORDS: MESSY LITTLE CHERYL
Cheryl Cole, the name everyone knows, a member of Girls Aloud to solo star and judge on one of the most popular TV show, The X Factor. Now she can never get out of the tabloids but how did it all happen? From the age of nine Cheryl showed an interest in the arts. Born in Newcastle Upon Tyne. As a judge on The X Factor she has been known to favor contestants from Newcastle too, Joe McElderry? Remember him? The winner of The X Factor 2009. It doesn’t shock many people that he won, after all Cheryl made it obvious Geordie Joe was her favorite. Some could also say it’s not true but who knows? Not even Simon Cowell could tell us the answer, or could he? Lets start at the beginning. At the age of sixteen Cheryl beat over 9,000 people to win a place in The Royal Ballet School but then she realised singing was her thing. She endded up working as a waitress, not the best job ever, who would enjoy their life cleaning and giving out meals all day? She saw the commercial for ITV’s Popstars: The Rivals and what could she loose? She gave it a shot and all the judges loved her. After all the hard work she was crowned winner along with Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh and there it was, Girls Aloud. Once the girl band brought out their debut album Sound of the Underground, they worked on another and another, Girls Aloud was getting bigger and bigger throughout the UK. We’ve all heard about the horse and carriage wedding, Cheryl married footballer Ashley Cole in July 2006. It was all good until there were stories about the two of them in the tabloids non stop and rumours. Of course Cheryl wasn’t happy and the public began to wonder why she was dating him, or worse even married to him. What about Cheryl, how did she decide to leave the girls and end up on a pop, RnB solo career? It’s all down to Black Eyed Peas star Will.I.Am during the ITV2 Passions of Girls Aloud series, Cheryl auditioned as a street dancer to gain a part in the music video for Will.I.Am’s single Heartbreaker. She had to work non stop for the part but all her work paid off again. She won the part and was later asked to sing vocals on the track. Cheryl said herself ‘We became friends and he said he was interested in working with me again. It was a massive compliment but I didn’t even register it, really. I was working hard with the Girls. They were my complete focus.’ Said Cheryl.  Working with Will.I.Am was completely different to anything she’d done with Girls Aloud.
‘With Will I was seeing music being made right from the ground up.’
Cheryl said. After the song was released Cheryl decided to take some time to work more on a solo career, she released her first hit single Fight for This Love which ended up number one in the UK, later she worked with Will.I.Am again in a duet called 3 Words. ‘I still can’t quite believe that that song is mine,’ Cheryl says now. After the hit single 3 Words, she brought out a complete album named 3 Words, a mixture of RnB and pop songs. In May 2010, Cheryl filed for divorce at London's High Court, about time she got rid of him. Cheryl missed the auditioning process of the new series of The X Factor because of suspected acute malaria. Luckily she made a full recovery and returned to judge on the show. On November 1st 2010 Cheryl brought out her new album Messy Little Raindrops, she worked with Dizzy Rascal and Will.I.Am again in this album. They are just some of the artists she has worked with as she recently worked with Nicki Minaj and can you guess who? Will.I.Am which won’t shock many people. We can certainly expect a lot more from Cheryl in the future as she plans to stay as a judge on The X Factor and even the American version of the show along with Simon Cowell next year. Expect another album, singles and more because this is only the beginning for Cole. We had the time to chat to fans about Cheryl herself. Here’s what one of Cole’s fans said. ‘I really like the song Promise This by Cheryl, I can relate to the words and it’s just a really good song.’ Well Cheryl must be doing a good job on her new album to get a comment like that. ‘Cheryl Cole inspires me’ said another fan, It doesn’t stop for Cheryl, dancer, singer, judge, what next? Another fan we asked said they thought her fight back from going into hospital was inspirational because now she’s back on track. They also said that they liked Cheryl’s work with Will.I.Am. So what's next for Cheryl? Who knows, but she's sure to be on your T.Vs for a long time.

Article Research

For my double page spread I will be writing an article on Cheryl Cole. Here I have done some research on Cheryl Cole's life because I will be writing a biographical article on her with interviews with fans.

Born in Newcastle Upon Tyne, Cheryl Cole grew up performing as a dancer in recitals and on TV. She also appeared in a few television commercials including one with her younger brother Garry. In addition to Garry, Cheryl has another two brothers, Andrew and Joseph and a sister, Gillian.
At the age of 16 Cheryl auditioned on Tyne Tees Television “Gimme 5” where she was looking for sponsors to get into the Royal Ballet School. Cheryl beat over 9,000 others to secure a place at the school.
Cheryl was working as a waitress when she decided to audition for ITV’s Popstars: The Rivals and at her first audition, Cheryl sang S Club 7’s Have You Ever. She got the thumbs up from all three Judges to go through to the next round of auditions to be held in London. On the 30th November in 2002, Cheryl was announced as a winner alongside Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh and Girls Aloud was born.
Girls Aloud hold the record for the shortest time between formation and reaching number one in the
UK Charts with their platinum-selling début single Sound of the Underground. Guinness World Records
lists them as “Most Successful Reality TV Group” in the 2007 edition, and the group also hold the record for “Most Consecutive Top Ten Entries in the UK by a Female Group” in the 2008 edition, with 15 consecutive top tens from Sound of the Underground in 2002 through to Walk This Way in 2007. Girls Aloud have since extended this record to 18 consecutive Top 10s from debut – the most recent being Can’t Speak French which reached number 9 in March 2008.
During the ITV2 Passions of Girls Aloud series, Cheryl auditioned as a street dancer to gain a part in the
music video for will.i.am’s single Heartbreaker. She won the part and was later asked to sing vocals on
the track. The song was released in the UK on 5 May 2008, but had already entered the top ten on download sales and peaked at number 4 in the UK Singles Chart.
Cheryl married footballer Ashley Cole in July 2006. It was reported that Ashley had slept with some hairdresser or something. Back in 2003, Cheryl was convicted of assaulting a cloakroom attendant.
Cheryl has been working pretty much non-stop for the last couple of years after winning another series of The X Factor - this time with Joe McElderry - She had a Number 1 single with Fight For This Love, have her own TV special on ITV1 and appeared at the Royal Albert Hall to sing alongside Snow Patrol.
In May 2010, Cole filed for divorce at London's High Court citing "unreasonable behaviour" of estranged husband Ashley as the reason for their break-up. In July 2010, Cole was admitted to hospital with suspected acute malaria. This was shortly after a visit to Tanzania, where it is believed she may have contracted the disease. Cheryl was forced to pull out of the X Factor auditioning process, but will return for the live shows.

It took the instant approval of the hottest pop producer in the world right now, Black Eyed Peas hitmaker Will.I.Am, to get the Cheryl Cole solo locomotion steaming. ‘This is how it all began,’ says Cheryl, in classic fairytale mode, of her solo journey. ‘Last year we made The Passions of Girls Aloud. I decided I wanted to have a go at street-dance.  The reward at the end of the show was a guest appearance in a Will.I.Am video, for his single Heartbreaker. We became friends and he said he was interested in working with me again. It was a massive compliment but I didn’t even register it, really. I was working hard with the Girls. They were my complete focus.’

But after the Out of Control Tour came X Factor and then Record company folk began asking if she was interested in Will.I.Am’s offer and so she decided to take some time out to work with him in the studio. ‘The way we work with Girls Aloud is that we’ll go into the vocal booth and do our lines on a track that’s already almost completed. With Will I was seeing music being made right from the ground up. He’d ask my opinion on the beats and the words. He’d send me off to write hooks.’

The recording process gathered momentum after Will and Cheryl had alighted on the gob-stopping robo-pop R&B duet 3 Words that will form the centrepiece of Cheryl Cole, solo. ‘I still can’t quite believe that that song is mine,’ says Cheryl now, justifiably chuffed with the results; a lean sound that straddles an imaginary dancefloor somewhere between Ibiza and South Beach, Miami and welds it to a lyric that sounds as if it were crafted from the finer end of a Geordie text message.'

She says, ‘Right from the start with this I knew what I wouldn’t sing. If I heard a thumping dance beat or a phrase I wouldn’t use, it’d go. If I was going to make a solo record it had to be a record that I’d play in the house. I love what the Girls do. I love the quirkiness and I love that it is our sound. But this time it had to be personal.’
